Do I Need a Contractor License on My Invoice?

Whether your contractor license must appear on your invoices depends on your state and trade. Here is what you need to know.

States That Require License Display

Many states legally require contractors to display their license number on all customer-facing documents, including invoices and contracts. States with strict requirements include California, Florida, Texas, New York, and most others.

The specific requirement varies — some states require:

How JobsPaid Handles This

JobsPaid automatically adds your license number to invoices based on your registered state and the requirements for that state. To enable this:

  1. Go to Settings → Business Profile
  2. Enter your Contractor License Number
  3. Select your State and Trade
  4. Save

JobsPaid will include it on all invoices going forward.

What If Your State Does Not Require It?

Even if your state does not require it, displaying your license number builds trust with customers. It shows you are a legitimate, licensed professional.

Multiple Licenses

If you hold licenses in multiple states, enter your primary license number in Settings. For invoices in other states, you can add the relevant license as a note on the specific invoice.

Note: License display requirements change. Verify the current requirements with your state's contractor licensing board.
