What's the Difference Between a Quote and an Invoice?

A quote is a proposal (before work). An invoice is a bill (after work). Quote: "here's what it will cost." Invoice: "here's what you owe." Always send a detailed quote first, get approval, do the work, then invoice. Never invoice for more than the approved quote without a signed change order.
