Adding Line Items to an Invoice
Line items are the individual charges on your invoice — labor, materials, services.
How to Add Line Items
- On the invoice editor, scroll to the Line Items section
- Click + Add Item
- Fill in:
- Description — what you did ("Kitchen faucet installation", "Copper pipe 10ft")
- Quantity — hours or units
- Rate — your price per unit
- The amount auto-calculates (Qty × Rate)
- Add more items as needed
Tips for Professional Invoices
- Separate labor from materials — customers appreciate transparency
- Be specific — "Replaced 3 GFCI outlets in kitchen" is better than "Electrical work"
- Round to clean numbers — $75/hour looks more professional than $73.50
Pro tip: For big jobs, group by area: "Kitchen - Labor", "Kitchen - Materials", "Bathroom - Labor", etc.
Common Mistakes
Don't put everything in one line item. Breaking it down builds trust and looks more professional.
