Knowing exactly how much materials cost for each job is essential for accurate bidding and profit tracking. Here is how to track job-level material costs in JobsPaid.

Method 1: Add Materials to the Invoice Line Items

When creating an invoice, add separate line items for materials:

• Labor: Electrical rough-in — $800
• Materials: Wire, boxes, breakers — $340
• Materials: Panel upgrade components — $215

This approach makes material costs visible on the invoice and keeps them linked to the specific job.

Method 2: Log Expenses and Tag to a Job

When you purchase materials at a supply house:

1. Scan the receipt or enter the expense manually
2. In the Notes field, write the job or customer name (e.g., "Johnson kitchen remodel")
3. Set category to Materials

Later, filter your expenses by that note to see total material costs for that job.

Calculating Job Profit

To see profit on a job:

• Revenue = Total invoice amount
• Direct costs = Labor hours × your rate + materials
• Gross profit = Revenue − direct costs

JobsPaid's Reports section shows revenue per customer, which you can compare against your material expense logs.
