Adding Scope of Work to a Quote
Adding a detailed scope of work to your quotes is one of the best ways to protect your business and set clear expectations with customers. When both you and your client know exactly what's included in the job, you'll avoid costly disputes and change orders later.
What is a Scope of Work?
A scope of work is a detailed list of everything you'll do on the job. Think of it as your game plan written down – it covers what materials you'll use, what tasks you'll complete, and what the customer can expect when the job is finished.
Adding Scope of Work to Your Quote
- Open the JobsPaid app and tap Dashboard
- Select Quotes from the menu
- Tap Create New Quote or open an existing quote
- Scroll down to the Scope of Work section
- Tap in the text box and start typing your job details
- Be as specific as possible – include materials, labor, timeline, and cleanup
- Review your scope carefully before saving
- Tap Save Quote when you're finished
What to Include in Your Scope
Your scope of work should cover:
- Materials: List specific brands, quantities, and quality levels
- Labor: Describe each task you'll perform step by step
- Timeline: How long the job will take and when you'll start
- Cleanup: What condition you'll leave the work area in
- Exclusions: Clearly state what's NOT included in your price
For example, instead of writing "Install new faucet," write "Remove existing kitchen faucet, install new Kohler single-handle faucet model K-596, connect supply lines, test for leaks, clean work area."
Common Mistakes
Don't write vague descriptions like "fix plumbing problem" or "electrical work." This leaves too much room for misunderstandings.
Avoid skipping the exclusions section. Always mention what's NOT included, like permits, painting touch-ups, or additional repairs you might discover.
Don't forget to mention cleanup responsibilities. Customers appreciate knowing you'll leave their space tidy.
